Compost
As your fruit and vegetable peelings can be readily composted, along with items like your teabags and eggshells, I think that we should also use this site to promote home composting. You can either choose to make a simple compost heap, or you could buy a subsidised compost bin through your Local Authority. If these items are put out with the rest of your household rubbish, they will be sent to landfill where they will breakdown and release methane - a particularly potent green house gas that contributes to global warming.
